Call the BBB number for a computer voice check on local businesses.   Given the local phone number of the business you wish to deal with, keying it in will yield the status of the BBB file on that business.   This is a free service, 24 hours a day call 915-577-0191.

A business does not just "join" the BBB.  It must be considered stable and reputable and be approved by the BBB board.
